Hard-hitting new website for international street children's charity, Toybox

From start to finish, Itineris has guided us brilliantly and delivered beyond our expectations. The agency's friendly, helpful and extremely knowledgeable team has given us both the freedom to explore new creative avenues whilst maintaining structure, consistency and detail. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a digital agency that listens, responds and expertly delivers.

Stephen Thorn, Director of Marketing & Fundraising

Brief

Toybox is a Christian charity committed to helping street living and street working children and those at risk of becoming so, principally in Latin America.

The charity was seeking a complete redesign of its website to present a compelling case for support about the plight of street children to visitors. An additional requirement was for simple navigation through a wealth of resource for existing supporters.

The website needed to build Toybox's reputation as a trusted and well-established charity to attract and then direct visiting new donors, volunteers, supporter and child sponsors to online material that would inspire them to take action.

Toybox specified that a powerful, yet easy-to-use content management system should drive the site so that in-house teams could create, amend and remove content within given brand parameters without the need for 3rd party consultants.

Itineris' strategy was to:

  • Create a new online style and layout that would attract new supporters by quickly providing a moving and clear picture of the realities of life for street children. The highlighting and regular updating of individual child stories would be key.
  • Lead the client through the process of developing a new user-intuitive navigation system using a consistent approach and well-planned secondary navigation to exceed customer expectation.
  • 'Future-proof' the site by exploring and planning for the client's future requirement so that future functionality and modules can be quickly and seamlessly bolted on.
  • Implement its award-winning CMS system with a suite of interchangeable modules to allow for easy updates and regular refreshed content.

Fulfillment

The site design focussed on the life stories of the street children with emotive imagery and quotes throughout.

Itineris took the time to understand Toybox's target audience and supporter segmentation, drawing up personas to create a robust site structure that would appeal to all key groups.

The new website was built on Itineris' award-winning content management system, i.content enabling Toybox to have complete control over their online marketing activity.

The site was split into distinct areas; Street Children for facts and location details, Give for donors for instant donations, Get Involved for fundraising, volunteering, events and sponsored challenges, Pray, Shop to guide buyers to Toybox's e-commerce shop, About for annual reports, policies, staff profiles and jobs and Contact for contact details.

The site incorporated a large resource centre built to house the charity's latest news, press releases, newsletters, video archive, blog and resources for schools and churches.
